Real Stories
My greatest fear arrived six months ago when Fitness First Country Manager Mark Ellis launched Operation Shape-Up. 'This is a nightmare - this can't be happening,' I thought. It would be hard to make excuses, although I was already thinking of asking for an exemption due to health reasons. Anything, I reasoned, to get myself out of this 'jam.'

Not surprisingly, I failed the initial test. I was immediately included in the Boot Campers' list, and although I attended my workout schedule religiously, I still snuck in my 'sinful indulgences' from time to time. I was not ready cut back on my chocolates, desserts and carbs at that time - not if I can help it.

After transferring to ABS-CBN from North EDSA, Fitness Manager Garimor Jamias (who's my Personal Trainer) entered my name in Biggest Loser Challenge. I initially felt insulted, but when several other personal trainers approached me about it, that's when I started to gradually warm up on the idea. When Gari spoke to me again about the challenge, I told him that I was ready to make a change for the better.

My first move was not just to incorporate exercising in my daily routine, but to learn to love it. Having a healthy and balanced diet was the second one. I started keeping a food journal (thanks to my nutritionists Elaine and Rency) and learned not to restrict my calories nor go on a strict diet. I kept track of my progress and was determined not to give up. Eventually I learned to love exercising - nowadays I normally do so 5-6 times a week. With Gari's help, I was finally able to achieve my fitness goals. Not only does it help keep me in shape, but it also served as a great outlet for me - it has now become my 'pensive time' when I set everything aside and need not worry about anything else.

I now tip the scales at 143 lbs. I’ve lost 33 lbs in just 3 1/2 months and took 21 % off my body fat. I feel very comfortable, energetic and best of all, normal. Now I fully understand the benefits of having a healthy lifestyle, and why it is so important to exercise. Now I fully understand why successful individuals often say “nothing is impossible.”
